🚨 Mat Rules
  • Respect yourself, your training partners, and instructors.
  • Keep quiet during instruction.
  • No foul language.
  • Have mat awareness during rolls.
  • No shoes on the mat.
  • No food or drinks on the mat.
  • Do not walk barefoot off the mats.
 
🧼 Hygiene Rules
  • Always wear a clean gi or no-gi gear to every class.
  • Trim your nails (hands and feet) to prevent injuries.
  • Shower after training.
  • Do not train when sick.
  • Remove all jewelry and piercings before class.
  • No barefoot walking outside the mat area.
 
👕 Uniform & Gear
  • All training gear must be clean and free from rips, tears, holes, or stains.
  • Do not wear shorts with pockets or zippers during no-gi training.
  • Do not hang or leave gear in the bathroom.
 
🤝 Respect & Etiquette
  • Slap & bump before every roll.
  • Respect your training partners – tap early, release submissions immediately.
  • No ego on the mats. everyone’s here to learn.
  • No yawning or whining.
  • Listen to instructors.
  • Be welcoming to all, especially beginners and visitors.
 
👀 For Spectators
  • No coaching, encouragement only.
  • Stay quiet when the instructor is speaking, it distracts the kids.
  • Stay off the mats unless invited.
  • Keep phones on silent.
  • Be respectful and positive at all times.

For training at META BJJ, you’ll need basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu equipment. We offer both Gi and No-Gi classes, so gear requirements depend on the class type.

Gi Classes

  • A BJJ Gi
  • A belt matching your rank
  • Mouthguard (recommended)
  • Rash guard
 

No-Gi Classes

  • Rash guard (short or long sleeve)
  • Spats or athletic shorts (must be pocketless for safety)
  • Mouthguard (recommended)
 

Hygiene Gear (Required for All Classes)

  • Clean training clothes each session
  • Trimmed nails
  • Flip-flops for off the mats

Absolutely. While there is no ‘cure’ for ADD or ADHD, it can be managed. Our Windsor preschool Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes help kids develop the tools they need to maintain focus & concentration. Through following Windsor preschool Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques instructors, drilling, and mastering moves, kids develop tools to stay focused and on track.

Absolutely. Our community of parents often become friends. We’re sure you’ll meet some other great moms and dads and bond over your child’s martial arts journey. Feel welcome to sit in one of our chairs and watch as long as you’d like. 

But please don’t feel pressured to stay if you need to take off. Many parents use our class time as a chance to get coffee, relax, get beauty treatments, etc. It’s completely up to you!

For kids who are not natural athletes – team sports can be devastating on self-esteem. These kids often feel like they are ‘letting the team down’ because they can’t keep up as well. 

But in martial arts – kids are in a group environment, but every child is on their own unique journey. They can go at their own pace. Some kids advance faster, others slower. That’s okay.
